Erica
grew up dancing and performing different styles of dance. As
soon as she graduated from San Diego State University with a B.S.
in Electrical Engineering in 2005, she finally had time to pursue her
passion for salsa dancing. She quickly joined Majesty in Motion
Dance Company, the largest salsa dance company in San Diego. Soon
after, she also joined the Salsa Divas, the first all ladies salsa team
in San Diego, and performed
with them for their first routine in 2005. She then took a break
from the Salsa Divas shortly after to focus on her career as an
Engineer at Qualcomm
and her previous dance commitments with Majesty in
Motion's professional, traveling, performance team. Partnering with
co-director of Majesty in Motion, Juan Carlos
Hernandez, she traveled
with the professional team to perform at events and congresses in San
Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Palm Springs.
After celebrating the New Year of 2008 she made a major career change, trading in the corporate job to focus her attention on her dance career. After performing with the Divas for the West Coast Salsa Congress in 2008, Erica continued to dance with Juan Hernandez, traveling and performing with Majesty in Motion's professional team. Together they co-directed Majesty in Motion's beginner team teaching first-time salsa dancers basic dance technique, drills, timing, and stage presence.
As dance partners, Juan and Erica have choreographed routines, performed and taught workshops for private events in San Diego, Texas, New Mexico and internationally while teaching group classes weekly in and around San Diego at Culture Shock, Cheek 2 Cheek, Synergy Dance Zone, and Qualcomm Inc..
In July of 2010, Juan and Erica were married. They now teach a beginner performance team at Qualcomm Inc. and continue to teach together in various San Diego dance studios.
